Does anyone have suggestions for freelance jobs/gigs

Does anyone have suggestions for freelance jobs/gigs?

I've been laid off since August & my unemployment is really not helping too much with my monthly bills/expenses. I'm not a PROFESSIONAL writer, however I do possess good writing skills & would like to create some income by writing articles, however I'm not sure what websites are reputable. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Google use text for it's search engine ranking. It has to be original so if you can right some one buy and some one will read it. Here is a place to start https://www.mturk.com/mturk/welcome You got to start some where. You need to net work Face book twitter and any social network and only join others that are related to sports. google loves groups of like individuals. Get a web site at least a google blog or you can try wordpress-mu they will give you your own site. Now start writing. Once you got lots of content start posting the link to your site religiously in every sport site you can find. You will get noticed and if you are good they will come.
2 :
You can barely form a sentence. How are you going to write about sports?

Can I get paid to freelance and work part-time by the same company

Can I get paid to freelance and work part-time by the same company?
I am currently working for a media organization. A year ago, I began freelance reporting for them once a week (football games) . Since then, I was hired on a part-time basis. I've requested to continue my freelance reporting (my part-time job isn't in reporting) but I'm told I cannot freelance and work for the same station. I'm not sure if this is entirely correct, since I'm only part time. Who is right here? Further, I've explained that I'd be willing to do the freelancing for free -- as my top priorities are exposure and experience before actual compensation, and they've said that would also be a legal problem. Any knowledge and/or suggestions to share for this?

Unfortunately, either you're an employee (full time or part time) or your a subcontractor (freelancer). You can't be both. The IRS has a detailed list of what makes you an employee (it's something like 27 different rules). And they've come down hard on companies that mess this up. So if you're a p/t employee, then any other work you do for them is compensation as an employee. And if you do it for "free" then they could have a DOL issue on their hands and they probably don't want that either. So . . . . now you know the rest of the story! Good luck

I am in grad school and also working. I am going insane. Should I quit my job?
I am on a full ride at grad school. The fellowship includes a paid teaching position that takes up about 20 hrs a week. Additionally, I work as a freelance editor about 15 hours a week. I'm losing my mind. Should I quit my freelance job?

it depends on how much u need the money... but yes i would say quit the freelance especially if it has nothing to do with your major in grad school.

Don't let it get to bad because then your health will be at stake. Already sounds like your sanity it. Hang in there! It won't last forever

It is always risky, but try http://www.elance.com as they take the trust and certifications seriously. Generally on the job boards people have profiles where you could check if the previous buyers/providers had been happy to work with that person or not. Just don't relly too much on others' oppinions because they may not be honest.

What kind of business or job can be done with photography

What kind of business or job can be done with photography?

I'm looking to do freelance photography or a job where I take pictures like events, or ppl in their cultures...what's a good money maker...
Careers & Employment - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
A wedding photographer pays very well, however the customers can be very difficult to please.
2 :
Wedding photos? This might not sound exciting, but how about passport & visa photos? Lots more people are going to be needing passport photos. Immigration photos too, while you are at it. Doesn't sound very creative, but least it could be a little action on the side
3 :
There are many types of photography that might interest you, including photojournalism for magazines/newspapers large and small, wedding/event photographers, people who document daily life or specific topics, advertsing, portrait, fashion, architectural, medical, crime, nature, scientific, sports, industrial and artistic photographers. Some people do all of these and more. Freelancers that focus on one area often have to supplement their primary income with jobs of another type. For instance, a sports photographer may take on some other photojournalism accounts, or an advertising photographer may do portaits on the side. Unless you become one of the select few that can charge thousands of dollars an hour, you'll most likely take what you can get for from your clients. That work usually also requires that you be your own salesperson, bookeeper, technical expert and graphic designer as well. Only if you make enough money can you afford to pay other people to do these things for you. The alternative is to work for a company that hires you only for a specific role. Scientific, medical, industrial, crime and sometimes advertising photography is done this way. The advantage is that one gets a steady income, health benefits and the like, but no freedom to take on other jobs that might be more interesting. Like many artistic endevours, photography doesn't often pay that well unless one makes it to the very top of the profession. Depending on location and competition, wedding photography is probably the best way to make a decent living, but the work is very hard. People who choose that life spend most weekends on the job and many nights meeting with potential clients -- the times when the rest of the world is relaxing or being with friends and loved ones. Likewise, freelance photojournalists do a lot of work, and always have to be ready if a big story breaks. And their labor is done with the hopes that someone will buy their pictures later. Many supplement their income by shooting "stock" photography. There are "stock houses" that buy images of unspecified people and places which they then sell to companies like publishers and advertisers. Again though, this is mostly speculative work. It sounds like what you're most interested in is photojournalism, so contact some local news agencies to see what the going rate is. It is possible to get a degree in photojounalism if you want to go that route. But like any type of photography there's one sure way to improve your skills: shoot, shoot, shoot again, and shoot some more. Selling your work can make it all worthwhile, so I encourage you to give it a try. Good luck

How do I learn to love my job

How do I learn to love my job?
A couple of months ago I landed a great job as a graphic designer doing what I love. Very recently I even got a promotion so now I am full time with benefits. I get along with everyone but one person and it's a pretty good job but I still dread waking up in the morning and coming in. While at work, I wish I were at home being able to do my work from there even if that meant working even longer hours. I wish I could freelance but have the job security and benefits of my current job. I just consider myself a free spirit and I don't like the strict regiment of a 9am-6pm schedule. Also when I need to leave to do things like go do a dentist or doctor's appointment, my job makes me feel so guilty like I am doing something terribly wrong, but with my schedule I don't have any choice, so they make me work even longer hours to make up the time. Also the guy I don't get along with doesn't believe that women should be in the work place and it aggravates me every day. Any advice?
Psychology - 17 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
try to find something like you want - until then hang in there..
2 :
Wait it out atleast a year. I know it sucks and its hard but alot of things can happen to change your situation. Your job could start believing in telecommuting so that you could stay at home or the guy could receive another job offer elsewhere. Either way you should stick it out a year so it looks good on your resume. The fact that you received a promotion already shows that you can do your job well. Just wait it out and you will be able to move onto bigger and better things.
3 :
check your company policy on flex time, where you might be able to be there 10-12 hours a day to get friday off. or get there earlier and take time to "get in gear".
4 :
Just make up your mind to like it. The Grass is always greener on the other side.
5 :
You have to make it fun for you. Try your best to ignore the mean guy or just smile at him whenever he talks to you. Don't talk to him just smile. He'll think you know something and that you won't tell him. Being a graphic designer you should have fun with your projects. Put your heart into them and that's where your focus should be, not on the hours you are putting in. If it's truly what you love to do then it should be fine. Otherwise, shop for another job when you get time.
6 :
Your job has nothing to do with it. Your sense of security in life has everything to do with it. You don't have to take bullying in the workplace [least not in UK you don't] There is no reason why you can't start on Monday to look for freelance work and do it 'outside work'. Develop a clientéle and when you have built up a reputation go for it. The creep you don't like or are fearful of is only a pcirk. You do not have to allow him to invade your inner space. I would say the next time he makes any 'offensive' comment you strike him across the face as hard as possible with your open hand. Then, IMMEDIATELY, scream at him " I can't believe you would make such a filthy comment. Then claim to everyone in the 'office' that he asked you for 'something gross' [fill in yourself, this is a family show] Then report him to your line manager or [if he is your line manager] higher up. You are a child of the universe! You have a right to be here! Your comment about feeling bad when you need to take time out shows only your insecurity within yourself. You are entitled by law [again UK] to sick leave, absenses on medical and domestic grounds. You need to bone up on your local laws so you can walk out to the dentist or the grocer with dignity and purpose. You do not need to apologise to anyone for your presence on the planet. YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO BE HERE The more you show others your inbuilt confidence the sooner they stop bullying. I can't believe i am saying this to a possible 25 yr old [or more?]. This is the kind of advice I usually have to give to bullied 13 yr olds. But what the heck. You look like a very nice person to me. So chin up and damn them all. They can't take your innate skill for you.
7 :
lol, I understand. I love my job, but I still hate coming here. It's physics, an object at rest stays at rest.
8 :
Find a way to make your work space more "homey" and keep telling yourself how very lucky you are to have a career that you enjoy when so many people don't even know what career they should have. It's only been a couple of months for you to be in your new job, allow yourself time to adjust to the different setting and enjoy your work as if you were doing it at home. There is always going to be at least one annoying person in your workplace, even if your workplace is at home. After all, the world is full of telemarketers and sales people to bother you at home, or annoying people at the store, annoying neighbor, etc.
9 :
Aggrivating person = Look him straight in the eye and tell him that you would appreciate it if he kept his comments to himself. Schedule = You could request that you do your work at home. Of course, you'd have to prove that you are capable of working at home. Maybe you can get a contract for this arrangement.
10 :
We have the same situation, for me waking up in the morning is not an easy task to do, but for me i don't consider this situation a very hard for me, just enjoy don't think its so hard in a long run you can do it effortless.
11 :
Unfortunately, I empathize with you. I have a coworker that sometimes can still bug me while I'm at home by just remembering my day or when I am getting ready in the morning. I, however, would like to leave my position and find a higher paying, more challenging environment. I have been working with this person for 7 years. I allow myself to feel annoyed every once in awhile but I do not let it get out of control. Usually, I get along fine with her on the surface but I always feel I have to hold myself back from saying something that really would be considered rude. Her entire attitude at work is self-serving. Anything that is said to her is met with "Well, whatever" or "Well, I don't care because...." and she doesn't ever consider anyone else's feelings, including mine. There is no other difference of opinion though...just a general dislike that I harbor for her. If you cannot work it out with this guy, I would focus on other things. Ignore him outright when necessary (just keep talking to your other coworkers). Leave your job only if you find a better one, in my opinion. There is no reason to be unemployed as a FAVOR to someone you do not like!! The guilt you feel over appointments is unnecessary. I hope you get over that. Just remind yourself there IS life outside of work. If you need to make up the time by staying late, then at least you have the appropriate time to finish everything on your plate at a normal rate. Rushing will just produce poor results. And you will not lose money by leaving for too many half day appointments. It sounds like you are doing well. Stay positive and opportunities will open up for you. But that doesn't mean you cannot search for them!!
12 :
Most of us work with people that are hard to get along with. If you switch jobs there will just be someone else. Do not take your work problems home with you... do not allow that jerk to rob you of your off time. Have you tried to get to know him? It sounds as if he is very insecure. Have you tried smiling and asking him questions like: "Where did you grow up?" "Do you have any brothers or sisters?" "What's your favorite sport?" Maybe if you two found a common interest it might help you both to relax You do the very best job you can do and you be the woman that shows him that women do belong in the work place!
13 :
Your situation is common for artists who become graphic designers. It's always harder creating art for someone else...especially when there is a timeframe involved and you are designing someone else's idea. I would suggest making some time at home to do some art for yourself. Also, read some good books or watch some good movies. They will help keep your creative juices flowing. Other than that, you need to some to terms with the fact that very few people actually "love" their job, because most people work for other people. Therefore, you are on their time, not your own. Keep in mind that the owner of the company/ firm is paying you money to do a job which allows you to utilize your natural talent. Many people don't have such an opportunity. You don't need to love your job in order to have a satisfying life. A far more important thing is learning to make the very best of your time away from your job. If you can do that, it won't matter what kind of job you have.
14 :
The others have offered some really good input, and I don't have much to add. Just two points: 1) I want to emphasize along with the others that a couple months isn't much to judge a job. You're probably just feeling a bit of "buyer's remorse" right now. A few more months, and it may feel like home. 2) I read an article once that said the single most important factor in level of employees' job satisfaction was the degree of control they felt they had over their job. So do things that will give you the feeling of increased control over your work surroundings. As someone else mentioned, arriving earlier and easing into your day will give you a better sense of control of your time. Making your workspace more cozy and personalizing it will give you a better feeling of control over your space. As for your errands situation, pin that down by finding out exactly what the office policy is. You already have an hour's lunch. So find out what the policy is for running errands over lunch and taking an extra 30 minutes. (You can snack in the morning or afternoon at coffee breaks.) Negotiate it, pin it down, take full advantage of it, and you will feel more in control of your fate. And if you need more control over your work and assignments, then ask for more responsibility--that's often the best way to increase control and choice over your assignments and how you accomplish them. Look at your circumstances in the office and try to see how many ways you can extend your control over your environment. That will also have the benefit of getting you to invest more in your workplace, which will give you more stake and interest in what happens there. Good luck!

seeking freelancing job in 3dmax architectural-animation

seeking freelancing job in 3dmax architectural-animation ?

I have 5yrs old experience in 3dmax architectural animation.I'm seeking for a freelancing job which is being outsourced to India from USA or European countries. Basically, I want to provide this service over internet. Would be grateful if you could pass me some websites name where I can get such job. Presently, I 'm doing Interior and exterior designing(perspective) as well as animation in 3d max software and other multimedia softwares.

You can look on job sites...but most of those are not being outsourced as the companies seeking that skill want to have a face to face relationship with the artist first before they allow telecommuting....that is just the nature of the business world today... Also...you are competing with literally hundreds of thousands of people both inside and outside the US who want to do the same thing...there is more supply of artists than there is demand for artists... Just something to keep in mind....if the software you use is not expensive or can be downloaded for free off the internet...there is no demand for those who can use it because everyone can use it...sorry..

Personally; I think they are fantastic videos, very fluent animation and well modelled. I've worked in the Interactive Media Design industry for a good while now and being a freelance can be great, but it's also a challenge. When you say you are looking a Freelance job... you are already a Freelancer! For it's all about freedom. However... 90% of the time companies won't come to you unless you have a fantastic reputation, or a strong promotional campaign. What you have to do is have something to offer a particular company THEN YOU approach them, don't phone them, don't e-mail them... go to the companies HQ yourself and speak to the big guys. It may seem daunting, but confidence and attitude is all part of getting a sale.... Give a powerpoint presentation of your best work and show how you can animate videos and how they apply to the company. GREAT FOR PROMOTION, GREAT FOR YOUR WEBSITES, GREAT FOR LOGOS, GREAT FOR ADVERTISEMENTS, GREAT FOR TRAINING VIDEOS, etc, etc... show them the range of stuff you have to offer! The key principle of winning over a client is persistence. If they turn you down at first, become like a rash... NEVER let a sale get away, yet maintain professionalism at all times. Constantly critically analysize everything you do.... IS THIS REALLY GOOD ENOUGH? etc.... Whatever you decide to do, remember that getting your name out there is the main thing, because no matter how good you are (and you seem really good at the 3D stuff) clients will not come to you [initially], you have to go to them. All the best with that.

What to do if you dont get paid for freelance work

What to do if you dont get paid for freelance work?
Im new to the freelance field and my old job asked me to come up with some logo concepts. They laid me off and this is the first time I'm doing work for them as a freelancer. I've tried to protect myself by sending them low resolution images and an invoice. I still have the source files, but "What if..." my old job doesnt pay and uses my idea or uses something very similar ?

u take them to court but u haev to have evidence
2 :
If you feel you have a legitimate verbal contract with them...and they use your stuff without paying you...then... You'd have to take them to Small Claims Court to recover the wages they refused to pay, and if a judge decides a verbal contract was made between you and your company, he will side on your case, you win, and then they have to pay you, or risk breaking the law themselves by refusing a court order...
3 :
Keep original work. Keep all transactions. Try to get a hold of their future publications. If you happen to see your original concept or work blatantly plagiarized and published, then contact a lawyer and sue the ba$tards. From here on in...take my good advice: NEVER EVER do work on SPEC without signing a contract and getting some money up front. Legit agencies/clients/publications PAY for these things: materials, time, conceptual art, ideas, designs. AVOID Craigslist for graphic freelance art jobs==it's a cesspool teaming with sheisters; looking to take advantage of artists

I'm a USA citizen and I applied for a job in Poland. If the company wants me, how can I get a working permit

I'm a USA citizen and I applied for a job in Poland. If the company wants me, how can I get a working permit?
This is a short-term freelance job (about 6 months or less). I should get a working permit in USA before entry, right? How to do it?? and how long take it? Does the process take more than a month? Plus, while working in Poland, to visit other Schengen Countries, do I need to get a Schengen Visa first before going to Poland?

It is your employer that has to arrange things. And as for free travel, as a holder of an American passport you have a visa-free entry to all Schengen states for up to 90 days in a year, irrespective of whether you are stationed inside one of the countries or not. Consult this: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_4361.html

If you are an accomplished typist - word processor and have recently visited your local city college or university librarian, you can apply as a "certified" graduate typist, earning between $1.50 to $2.00 per page for a master or doctoral thesis. The librarian will provide you with a sample of the typing template (i.e., margin settings, font selection, page set up, etc.) in order to complete these projects. An average weekend income is about $300-$400 for two days work. Good luck!

does anyone know how i can break into freelance writing

does anyone know how i can break into freelance writing?
I am looking for freelance writing jobs and i can't find any sites to help Does anyone know of any?
Media & Journalism - 3 Answers

First of all, do you write in your current job - in a corporate communications position, for example? What kind of freelance do you want to do - advertising, web site copy, brochures, direct mail, outdoor (billboards)? Editorial (magazines)? Public relations communications? There are various ways to find freelance writing gigs, but if you don't already have a lot of writing samples under your belt, you won't be considered. The competition is very fierce out there for clients and projects, and there are a lot of excellent established freelancers. I don't know specific websites, but if you lack the experience, I would suggest taking some writing/journalisn courses at a nearby college. The instructor would be able to provide some excellent tips. Another thing you can do is make everyone you know aware that you'd like to branch out. Start by doing some small projects for very little money for folks you know. EDIT: If you're an "expert" in a field, you might check your local newspaper and other publications to see if you could write a guest column - great for visibility. You can also develop a self-promotion piece - a mailer that tells people you're available.
2 :
try with http://www.freelance-projects-categories.com/Writing.php it shows freelance projects, in this case writing projects. choose one and youl'll be redirected to the main website where the project was posted , there you can bid on the project
3 :
You could sign up for http://www.infobarrel.com and write articles. They pay on a revenue share, so you will earn 75% of the revenue generated by your content. Its a great way to break into freelance writing if you ask me

For example help get rid of gangsters bothering people, apprehend a stalker, get some dirt on someone, etc, stuff like that. You think people would pay well for you to do stuff like that?

I think that if people could learn to trust you then it would easier for you to do your job. Also, i think that people would pay well for you to get rid of their problems for them for some cash. Especially now because of the stress put on because of the economy. If you did your job well and you seemed like a person that could be trusted, that would be a cool thing to try

How Can I Make Enough Money Freelancing To Afford to Quit My Salaried Job

How Can I Make Enough Money Freelancing To Afford to Quit My Salaried Job?
I graduated Summa *** Laude with a BA in print journalism and I have a small portfolio of writing and design clips that I've accumulated over the last 10 years. Right now I'm employed full-time at a job that pays very well, but that I hate. It isn't vaguely related to what I want to do--write for a living and be able to stay home to raise my child(ren). I am currently doing part-time freelance marketing and design work and some writing, but only 1 gig out of 3 is paid--and it doesn't pay that well. In addition to this, I also work full-time and part-time and have a husband, house and active toddler I am devoted to. I need to make the most out of any endeavor I undertake. I know I have the skills necessary to make a living by writing or doing graphic design and marketing at the very least. I just need the opportunity to make it happen. How can I obtain better-paying freelance gigs that will eventually allow me to replace my 9-5 salaried job with more fulfilling and flexible work?

Contact your local newspapers to see if they need help in that area. Also, I highly recommend purchasing the 2007 Writer's Market book. It has MANY opportunities to write articles, snippets, and so on. You may make $50 on one thing and several hundred or more on another. It has many well-known magazines and publishers listed with the requirements on contacting them, how much they pay (usually), etc. Good luck. :)

Unless your husband can carry the financial load, I would keep my job and wait to see what happens. As the saying goes.........."the starving writer"..........so even though your job is probably miserable, life could be even more miserable without a paycheck. I hope something works out for you, but now that you have a child to think about, don't trade his future dreams for yours. I wish you the best.

You've taken the first step, which is to figure out what you want to do! It's absolutely possible to replace your full-time salary with freelancer income. But it's important to do it wisely - and gradually. If you jump too quickly, you'll have that crazed "I need work" look, which won't help at all. I'm going to send you to a site that lists a bunch of excellent books you should read as you move forward. There are some good freelance sites (especially Guru.com) where you can start bidding on projects. I recommend the lowest PAID level membership - if you go with the free membership, you won't be able to bid on as many projects. Set a goal of bidding on about five projects a day, and you'll start getting work. Good luck

What's the best way for a teenager to get small freelance photography jobs

What's the best way for a teenager to get small freelance photography jobs?
I live in Tennessee and I'm 13. I'm going to just admit, I think I can take some awesome pictures. I have a Samsung Digimax S500, and it's great for landscaping and close-up pro pictures. I'm just wondering how and if it's possible for me to send in or talk to some company about them buying my pictures. Any ideas (Amateur or Professional)?

Sell your pictures on eBay - that would be a good way to get noticed...
2 :
Mail your pictures - don't send your only copies - to the local newspaper. Address it to editor. It is best if you can find out the editor's name and address it personally, but just editor is fine. Include a SASE so you get your pictures back, and a cover letter explaining what the photo is of and offering them for sale. If there's more than one newspaper, don't send it to all of them at once - you're offering exclusives, and doing that will cause tons of trouble. You may get back a reply that is just your photos, or a note that says they don't need these photos at this time. This means they don't want those photos, so try again with different ones. If you get back a reply that seems rude, don't let it bug you. Unless they say "don't send us anything ever again", keep trying. Just never send the same photo to the same newspaper twice. With enough persistance, you'll get a contract. Your parents will have to sign it for you, since you are under 18, but that won't change anything. I want to stress that it's persistance, luck, and taking the right pictures that gets you success much more than "awesome pictures

t's a virtual market place between buyers and sellers of IT services from all over the world. It helps buyers: webmasters, web designers, programmers, software developers and business owners to develop their projects. With this purpose we find sellers of IT services who are freelance workers (these are independent workers who are hired not on salary but on project basis): programmers, copywriters, web designers and translators. They help making the projects at the most convenient for the buyers price . As a result the best work is done at the best price. The Internet has opened up many freelance opportunities, expanding markets and helping to build it into one of the largest economic segments for many economies. Development for freelancing has been especially high for software development, website design, information technology, and business documentation. Freelance practice varies greatly. Some require clients to sign written contracts<!--while others may perform work based on verbal agreements, perhaps enforceable through the very nature of the work. Some freelancers may provide written estimates of work and request deposits from clients. Get more information on the website. You can almost find any freelance job you want. http://freelancejobs.awardspace.com/ Payment for freelance work also varies greatly. Freelancers may charge by the day or hour, or on a per-project basis. Instead of a flat rate or fee, some consultants have adopted a value-based pricing method-->based on the perceived value of the results to the client. By custom, payment arrangements may be upfront, percentage upfront, or upon completion. For more complex projects, a contract may set a payment schedule based on milestones or outcomes

First, you need to ask yourself what you are good at. There is a huge demand right now for freelance writers and social media experts. All you have to do is search the web for legit freelancing sites, sign up for free, spice up your portfolio, and bid for jobs. It can be tough breaking into the freelance market, specilaly when you haven't built your online reputation yet. So, here's where a killer cover letter can help you when you bid for work. Hope these helps

You can find many from the internet by searching on the freelance jobs, free registration etc. That should give you quite a few to look at... By the way, myself is also a work-at-home guy that I take online surveys at home with paid sites. I did work for some free survey sites for a while but I turned out prefering to work for the paid sites as they reward me cash directly for my work. For detail of how other online jobs mayy also work for you please do feel free to read more from here for more openings to yourself. Find my WAH detail here: http://hoogoodies.wordpress.com/2009/01/07/make-money-taking-surveys-online/ Good luck!

"If a company requires initial payment from you in order to work for them, they are not legitimate." There are a few legitimate data entry companies but are not hiring and have large waiting lists (1-2yrs). The majority of data entry jobs you seen online are scams. A real company will want you to have skills inc fast typing, may want you to know MS Excel, and will usually ask that you have high speed internet. Once in a long while you may found one online on a job website but thats rare. If you do an advanced search on yahoo, you will find previous answers, sometimes the info on these is good as the info they gave is likely to have been verified if the answer was voted as 'Best'.

How can I calculate my federal and North Carolina quarterly taxes for my freelance work

How can I calculate my federal and North Carolina quarterly taxes for my freelance work?
I have a full-time (W-2) job but also do freelance (1099) work on the side. Taxes are withheld from my W-2 job but are not withheld for my freelance work. How how much should I pay for my quarterly taxes (for both federal and NC)?
United States - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
www.irs.gov Look up 1040es. There will be instructions to calculate and complete the estimated tax forms. Northa Carolina should have the same type of form. Browse the state website.
2 :
The best way is to compute your YTD profit each quarter, then annualize it. Pay your ES each quarter based on the annualized profit. To avoid penalty, you can make sure you pay in (through 4 equal ES payments and withholding) 100% of your prior year tax or 90% of your current year tax. Doing that, however, will not ensure that you will not be under or over paid at tax time.
3 :
Cash is King, my friend!
4 :
The estimated quarterly payment forms are rather clear about how to do this. Alternatively, you could increase your withholding at your W-2 job and thus avoid the estimated payments. Figure out how much more you need withheld. Start by claiming 0 on W-4, and you may need to add additional amounts withheld with each paycheck depending on the amount of freelance/self-employment income. Keep good records of expenses and mileage to reduce your taxable income when filing your Schedule C
