Hi, I have made an invoice for a freelance web design job, can you please tell me if it is missing anything

Hi, I have made an invoice for a freelance web design job, can you please tell me if it is missing anything?
Hi, I recently finished a web design job and needed to make an invoice for the work. I haven't made one before and I am just wondering if there is anything missing from it. Here is a low-res image of it. There are lines on the central-box too, but they are too faint to make out on the image. http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/7703/invocesampleqf1.jpg The blurred text is my address and contact details, the companies address and again at the bottom, my details. Thanks again!

Hi, I cant reallty see the writing, but as long as you have the following you are fine -Date of invoice -Invoice number for yours and their reference -Their full address -Description of goods -Amount -vat needs to be split down between Net amount and VAT (if applicable)with the gross amount at the bottom. -your VAT number, again if applicable -Your address -Your bank details (in case the customer sends a bank transfer) this should include your bank, the account number, IBAN, BIC etc. Also I really like to see an email address, aswell as a phone number ,when receiving invoices. If there is ever any queries, its a quick and effective way to resolve manners.
2 :
It looks from your question that you're the professional here, the designer of the web. This being a professional service to a particular customer, only you would know if it has everything the design specs required.
3 :
hard to tell from the image but the date looks like it just says Tuesday, August 2008. Need to list an actual date. basically a company needs an invoice with the following info: your name (or co. name) & address invoice number and date your customer's name & address descripton of what the invoice is for payment terms personally, I wouldn't list my bank account # on the invoice. Too much risk in someone using this info for purposes other than sending you money (ie: taking money from your acct

What should I ask to be paid for a freelance web design job

What should I ask to be paid for a freelance web design job?
I'm 18. My sister works for a landscaping company and their website is horrible. They want me to redo it. I've done websites since junior high and am pretty experienced in it but have never done one for pay. What do you suggest I ask to be paid being a freelance hobbyist? Should it be by hour, or a flat rate charge for the design and then by the hour? Awesome answers... but can anyone ball park me what I should do for a pretty basic design job? www.theartfulgardener.com is their current

Your best bet would be to quote for the whole job, not an hourly rate. Have a look around and see what the going rate is for the type of site you are going to pitch to the client. Make sure you get a good brief from the client, otherwise, you can spend a lot of time and they turn around and say no at the end. Show the customer some drafts once you have found out what they want from the site. BTW, I charge for every edit afterwards.
2 :
a friend of mine does freelance graphic design for websites and she gets anywhere from 15 to 40 US dollars per hour.
3 :
Pricing varies due to a number of factors: experience level, quality of work (talent), and market. For example, in the Orlando area, freelance web design is usually priced between $35 - $55/hr (according to a good friend of mine). It might seem low because you most likely won't have to brainstorm and come up with concepts for the site, the client will give that to you. Also, you could contact a freelancer in your area and see how much the freelancer charges. Then you can set your price accordingly based on experience level. Yes, it should be based hourly. The project can be pitched as costing x-amount of dollars total, but you will have to do a breakdown of time that you anticipate will be spent on the project to see if you're getting enough per hour in the end.
4 :
For an inexperienced web designer, I would start charging by page and/or project. When I was in college, I would charge $30 per an hour to design and maintain a business web site. Professionals can charge up to $120/hr depending on the level of programming and design. Charge something like $25 per page. For decent size web sites, charge $500 for the site. If you want to be professional about it, you create a business proposal with mock-ups, then discuss fees. As a business owner, it would be hard for me to invest in an 18-year old with no resume. You better have some good mock-ups and wireframes

How does a beginner find jobs as a freelance copy-editor

How does a beginner find jobs as a freelance copy-editor?
I am one semester away from my B.A in English Literature, and am currently employed as a Writing Tutor by the english department. How can I start finding freelance work as a copy-editor?

Try to get an Internship at a local newspaper.
2 :
Try posting an add on Craig'slist stating that your copy-writing skills are available. If you don't have any hits, check the site off and on to see if new posts come up.
3 :
If you're hoping to find work online, you should check out EditFast. You can register for free. I did several projects for them a couple of years ago. Also you should check out Guru - but only when you can afford the lowest level paid membership. (The free one's not very effective.) You may find this other site helpful, too - and it's got a free report that's excellent

If you want to make money online and wanted to work from home, go for freelancing jobs. They are only one, that will pay you and its free to become a freelancer. The Internet has opened up many freelance opportunities, expanding markets and helping to build it into one of the largest economic segments for many economies. You dont need to pay to get the job. Development for freelancing has been especially high for software development, website design, information technology, and business documentation. Freelance practice varies greatly. Some require clients to sign written contracts<!--while others may perform work based on verbal agreements, perhaps enforceable through the very nature of the work. Some freelancers may provide written estimates of work and request deposits from clients. Get more information on the website. You can almost find any freelance job you want. http://freelancejobs.awardspace.com/ Payment for freelance work also varies greatly. Freelancers may charge by the day or hour, or on a per-project basis. Instead of a flat rate or fee, some consultants have adopted a value-based pricing method-->based on the perceived value of the results to the client. By custom, payment arrangements may be upfront, percentage upfront, or upon completion. For more complex projects, a contract may set a payment schedule based on milestones or outcomes

Freelance journalists, how do you go about getting your stories

Freelance journalists, how do you go about getting your stories?
Hi, I'm interested in starting freelance journalism as a side job. I understand the process of submitting stories and such, but how do you go about getting the story? Do you guys get it yourselves or from news feeds or both? I'm looking more towards international news. Thanks. People with experience in this should answer this question.

1 :
Freelance for international news would be near impossible. Most papers either just pull international stories from the AP Wire, or if a paper is big enough/lucky enough to have desk in a foreign country, they just use one reporter. Unless you're taking about giving your spin on international events (which would also be hard to freelance because not many people care about international news), you're not going to find much luck. Most freelancers focus on local events and stories because they're more familiar with them. For someone new to the journalism world, I would recommend starting here. Cover an event or a story that you're comfortable with, write the story, and see what your paper does with it. If they like it, let them know what kinds of things you'd be comfortable with, and maybe you'll have a solid place to sell your work.
2 :
The thing about freelancing is that you have to invest in your own efforts up front. Once you have the story, you can sell it, but you have to get it first! This is why freelancing internationally would be very difficult- You'd have to pay to get yourself wherever the story is. On a local level, or for special-interest magazines, freelancing makes sense. You can get the story, fine-tune it with supporting art and photos, and shop it around to several media sources. Doing something like this internationally would require significant planning and investment, which is hard to justify without knowing when or if you'll ever get paid back for the stories. If you are just starting as a freelance journalist, get established on a local level first. A strong local reputation can be earned over time and open other doors. Best of luck to you, but I'll add this- the best freelancers worked at media sources first. Once they gain experience and repute, it becomes much easier to sell stories to former employers and former rivals as a freelancer.
3 :
I think that you have gotten some really good answers so far. I'd just like to add a few thoughts of my own. I got my start freelancing video for the local tv stations. They can't be everywhere and sometimes they just don't have people on duty to catch breaking news. I lived on the edge of the viewing area and was easily able to get to stories sometimes before the stations even knew about them. Over time I got a reputation for being able to identify good spots news and bad spots news and started to sell a lot of video. It wasn't long before they started calling me when they were shorthanded or knew I could make it to a scene before they could. If that's the route you want to take get a scanner, basic camera or video gear, a map and a cell phone and you're ready to go. Here are just a couple of basic rules. 1. Don't oversell the story. If there is nothing to it, say there is nothing too and wait for the next one. It will help you build credibility. 2. Don't consider information on the scanner to be accurate. Calls have a nasty habit of starting big and then scaling back. Get accurate info from someone in authority at a scene, police, fire or medic. 3. When dealing with authorities at a scene you will always catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. This is for getting scene access and information. (Work with them and they will work with you......most of the time) 4. Don't sweat it when you miss a story. You don't catch every fish when you go fishing. Stories are like buses, there will be another one along in about 20 minutes. 5. Always be ready to cover a story. Remember that the spot news business is not a matter of if but when. Good luck and more importantly have fun

You could find lots of transcription jobs and other clerical tasks via www.elance.com and www.odesk.com. Those two are the best places to start with. Also, I've heard about this genuine work-at-home transcription service called QuickTate. A friend of mine tried it out, worked for a couple of hours in a month and got paid a few bucks. Very interesting way to earn extra. Hope this helps

What can I do to omit a recent employer from my job history without hurting my chance for new employment

What can I do to omit a recent employer from my job history without hurting my chance for new employment?
I parted way with my last employer in March and have been having trouble finding another job. I thought I had a good reference, but since I am now in a dispute with them over unemployment, I'm not so sure. I'm in a specialized field and it doesn't look good to have no reference, so a friend in HR recommend I omit them from my resume. I have been doing freelance for awhile as well, so to say I've just been doing that. My question is, won't my last employer show up if they do a background check, even if I don't include them? It prob doesn't look good to say you're freelancing and then have a job you didn't include pop up on your job history.

don't include them, backround checks are for criminal stuff not ur past jobs
2 :
JUst because you have unemployment issues with your job, does not mean they will give you a bad reference (if that is why you're planning to omit them). Just provide any new opportunities with the name and number of your direct manager (not the HR dept. or something). That way, your manager will give any potential future employers the real scoop. Secondly, even if you omit your past employer from your resume, any new employers won't give it much thought. You're just hurting yourself by not listing experience you had with a company (and not freelancing, which might make you look unstable and a risk for big companies).
3 :
Don't leave them off, because as you stated, if they do a background check it will show up & that will raise more suspicions than not. Maybe what you could do is contact someone at the previous employer with whom you have a good relationship (former supervisor or colleague) and see if they would mind if you listed them specifically as a reference for that company. If you leave it off and you're hired & they find out later that you left it of, it could be grounds for dismissal. Also, if you're curious about what they're saying about you, you could have a friend (especially if you have a friend in HR) call for a reference as if you're looking for work with them. Slightly sneaky but it would give you a heads up

I've been doing some work with www.elance.com the past week, all the work is home based, data entry, transcription etc. The only thing is you're competing against people from countries where the hourly rate of pay is a lot lower, so not sure if it would be worth it for you. Also have a look at the jobs listed here, most are appicable to us,canada, europe, its quite good, thats where I found the above link. http://www.working-from-home-jobs.com/ or http://online-jobs-success.blogspot.com/ So many online jobs are out there. In fact, to do any online job, you need not want to invest anything. Make sure, you dont pay anything to get jobs online. It is just that need to pick the one that suits you the best. I hope this helps you and-->I believe you will find the online job that you love the most. Thanks
