Will a web design certificate be good enough to get a good job in web design

Will a web design certificate be good enough to get a good job in web design?
At my local communitty college they offer a certificate in web programming and design. I have fundamental computer skills, and was wondering if this certificate will be good enough to land a good job in web design, or at least give me the knowlege to freelance? Here is a link to the certificate cirriculum. Thanks so much! http://www.vhcc.edu/index.aspx?page=264

Yes, it will. In fact, the more certifications you get, the more you get paid and the more likely you are to get a job. Go to this site, and get the one-year subscription, and take a bunch of tests including HTML, JavaScript, PHP, Webmaster, MS Office... etc... they are fairly easy and quick. It's fairly cheap too. http://www.ncsacademy.com/default.cfm?ref=3043

Yes you should. However, note that you will get more competition from people who have university degrees. Also, you might want to try and create a few portfolio projects. For instance, create and design a website on geocities or any other free web hosting service. This way, you can show your employer the quality of work you do. Good luck.

A certificate at most schools is definitely enough to get you in the door. I would recommend you take some graphic design courses to complement your certificate as well. There is a lot of images in to days web pages. I started a company called Sandy River Web Design, and we do well. I am still in school, and I think we produce some quality products. Check out my site Sandy RIver Web Design

3 :
Apart from elance.com, you can also check out nineo.com A better idea would be to make a blog to showcase your freelancing talents and then people who need work from you will contact you themselves. In fact, that is the best business practice these days.

What IS in demand are the jobs you see in the job listings in your paper. Starting a freelance business in this age, there is little demand for either.
2 :
Yes off course there is a huge demand for the freelancer personels who can provide the services for money

What's the best way to get jobs online as a freelance web designer

What's the best way to get jobs online as a freelance web designer?
Other than word of mouth, contests, or bidding. I've been doing websites for gaming servers for a while now and I want to build my portfolio more with just gaming websites. I know of the contest sites but I'm not very supportive of them. I've tried the bidding sites as well and although it's successful I'd rather prefer being almost guaranteed a customer instead of hoping I get one. Anything helps, thanks!

OK

set up your own website, include a 'portfolio' page, have a few of your best works displayed in a gallary with links to the sites that are available online. make yourself a logo and company name, just make it look official, then apply for jobs with a link to your website. let the work speak for itself the two answers above me are clearly spam, havent seen this on YA in a while..

You could start your own Website advertising your services, and advertise the site. Of course, every ad you place for your site won't guarantee a customer. I did freelance Web design, and got most of my work from bidding sites, hardly any customers were from my site, even though I advertised it. This year, business sucked. Buyers had less money to spend, and they were more determined to get free service. Offshore companies won more and more projects because of their dirt-cheap rates. I just decided that it's not worth it. There are too many Web designers, and too many offshore companies.

everything has pro and cons. but since the pro out weigh the cons so if you have the skill and desire to be a successful writer then go for it. i am not a writer and English is only my second language. all my life my mind is always running non stop thinking this and that until i sometime have problem going to sleep . and i just realize that it is giving me trouble instead of benefit although the knowledge is invaluable. so i'm determined to be some sort of a writer to put all those stuff in my brain into writing and be a benefit to me, my family and hopefully i could contribute to society. because i believe to have a very full-filling life is thru giving. so if you have a passion to be writer don't let anything stop you from doing that. you know that there is a saying that you see what you know. so the more you know the more you see thing all though it still the same thing or objects. i have site about online biz but now i'm doing some major overhaul to the site and will put more original content. the way how to go about freelancing online is one of the resources that i will provide. maybe in 2 weeks it would be there. you can check now what my site is all about by going to my profile. hope that helps a bit.

Freelance writing is the best job in the world! You get to use your brain, write about a wide variety of topics, meet interesting people, and make some very good money - if you build your business wisely. You get to be your own boss, and can work from anywhere - as long as you've got wi-fi. The cons are - if you don't do it right, you could end up writing on spec or for free (or nearly free), then wind up in a 9-5 job you hate, wondering why you couldn't make it work. You have to be self-motivated and responsible, and learn to master your time. It's hard work getting started, but worth it! If you want to learn more, you can get the free report offered on the site below

Advice on freelance writing and editing jobs

Advice on freelance writing and editing jobs?
Does anyone out there actually have a steady income with freelance editing work? I know I won't be a millionaire, but I'm moving to a city with very few book publishers and I still need employment AND experience in the editing field, and I think freelancing would be a great way to get into my field. I just was wondering if anyone out there has had success with freelancing and could maybe reference a few good websites to start my employment search? Thank you!
