Should I quit my current job and go freelance

Should I quit my current job and go freelance?
I'm currently working as an employee in a software company earning at least 3 USD per hour. Been working in the company for 5 years. I'm planning to save up 20 thousand USD so that I could survive for 10 months without a job. I'm planning to go freelance cause I think I can earn more than my current job if I go freelance. I'm no longer happy with my lifestyle in the company because I no longer have any time for myself and its always overtime. Should I go find a home based online job as a freelance or is it a bad idea? PS: I also already took a personal health insurance in preparation.

In this economy I would not personally , but if you know you can make it happen go for it, or just hold off until you get another job offer that's better than you can move on ,It's just hard for me to suggest somebody leave their job when there are millions out of work struggling to feed there family's and pay there bills on time if you know what I mean. And be thankful you are working even if it's a lot of over time I can think of over 50 highly educated unemployed college grads who would take your job in a hart beat and for less pay with all of the added over time with no hesitations.

If you have the savings to make you live decently for the next 6 months, then, you may go ahead and jump into the freelancing bandwagon. Freelancing is the new full-time and a lot of businesses are outsourcing work, instead of hiring in-house staff. It costs them less to do so, and you'll get to have more flexible time for work and play at your end. You can try plenty of legit freelancing sites out there that are free for you to join. There is demand in the IT outsourced sector and you may just earn more than 3 USD an hour. It is never easy though. Freelancing is not for those who dream of quick-rich scheme. It takes patience and hard work. It's all about building your reputation online that counts

Colleges normally have an enormous amount of information on things like this. Check with either the journalism department or the writing and rhetoric program. Different colleges call writing programs different things. There are all sorts of writing magazines that ask for submission. Almost all submissions are done now by e-mail and there are some on line sites that list companies looking for freelance writers.
2 :
First you'll have to master your craft. Build credentials. Attend or conduct seminars on writing even with your circle of friends. Do networking with your friends and spread the word about your writing services. Submit articles, short stories, etc. for publication. Innovate and be original

I worked 2 freelance jobs last year and never filled out tax forms or recieved tax forms for them so do I have

to pay taxes on the wages? Each job lasted a couple months and I was written paychecks but my employers kept saying, " Oh yea we'll get to that.." and they never handed me the forms. I didn't get anything in the mail for them either so are they just under the table for now??

I'd get on to the Inland Revenue (or US equivalent if you're in the states) about it because I wouldn't want to get stung with a hefty tax bill at the year end... The employers are not responsible for it, YOU are. It doesn't affect the employers either way because they are not liable to pay your taxes, especially as you were freelance. The taxman always catches up with you unfortunately.
2 :
Yes, you still need to report the earnings on a schedule C or C-EZ, and pay tax on them. "Under the table" is illegal, you know. If you didn't get a 1099 from the company, then you report the amounts they paid you from your own records

What kind of freelance photography jobs can you get

What kind of freelance photography jobs can you get?
I am looking for ideas on using photography and maybe something to do with ethnic graphic designing as freelance work or to start a business. Suggestions please

If your interests lie in ethnic designs, you may want to do some photo essays on some of the premiere weavers in South Carolina. Photojournalism is a great way to explore cultures anywhere in the world. You may start out shooting for a small paper and as you get better known in the industry, you may be able to get a newspaper or magazine to let you do a self-directed assignment. If you are at all successful, you may find yourself traveling to destinations of your choice, exploring those subjects that interest you. Throughout photojournalist history, those kinds of photographer personalities pass through from time to time. Eugene Smith comes to mind but there have been others. Why not you
