B/C of benefits and job lock, am I better off leaving America to work freelance

B/C of benefits and job lock, am I better off leaving America to work freelance?
In a job right now I don't like, got a pre-existing condition, but the job offers good benefits. I speak several languages and would like to do freelance translating. Have looked into it and I could actually earn about the same as I do right now in my full-time desk job, but it's the benefits thing. I have looked around, and the policies that would cover my condition and the necessary treatments average $1,300 per month. My wife's Australian, my mother is Irish, so I have American and Irish citizenship and the right to live and work in Australia, am thinking of leaving with my wife for Sydney where I can work doing what I want and not have to worry about where the benefits are coming from. Contrary to what some conservatives may think, I don't intend to lie around and collect welfare, I want to work hard at what I love and be able to build my own schedule, and from what I have seen firsthand, Australia is a free, democractic nation with a high standard of living that has both public and private health care and did not become a gulag state. What do you think? Would you move to the land down under if you could pursue more job freedom and not experience "job lock"? It is not illegal to have dual citizenship in the United States, it is simply not recognized by the US government. Before making such an ignorant statement, go look up facts instead. Millions of Americans possess two passports or more.

Can you write freelance graphic design work off of your taxes

Can you write freelance graphic design work off of your taxes?
I am a college student doing freelance graphic design work on the side. I just completed a job with a businessman who I hope to turn into a repeat client but - he doesn't like that he has to pay me in cash and that he cannot write this off on his taxes. How can he continue to pay me in cash, and write off this expense?

He can write it off as a business expense...the difficulty will be in proving it should he ever need to do so. If you have an e-mail trail or you give him invoices marked paid, that would help his record keeping.
2 :
I am a freelance graphic artist and business owner. I also coach freelance artists and help them to create a full time income as a freelancer. Yes he can. All you have to do is write him up an invoice with all your contact info, the project name and the work. This is proof for him of payment, and IRS can contact you if he gets checked as proof of payment. Another option is to accept checks from him and deposit them in your checking account

How soon after starting a freelance gig can you list it on your resume

How soon after starting a freelance gig can you list it on your resume?
It's a fairly well known firm and one staffing agency mentioned there might be some issues with possible employers thinking that I might jump ship *if* the firm were to hire full-time. This staffing agency seems to have dropped me! But in my eyes, nothing is set in stone and I shouldn't have to worry that my freelance gig is stopping me from finding a better full-time job. But now after this I do wonder how to answer employers about the current freelance position. Any help appreciated.

Do you think it is ethical to tell my boss in my full time job about my freelance work

Do you think it is ethical to tell my boss in my full time job about my freelance work?
I am working full time but have been starting to get a lot of freelance work. I'm thinking of going to my 9 to 5 just 4 days a week, and they said it is alright if I do that, but I said I might be enrolling in a class, I didn't say the real reason. Did I do the right thing? I work about 35 hours a week in my office job as a 1099 contractor with no benefits. I work about 35 hours a week in my office job as a 1099 contractor with no benefits, And the freelance work is the same nature as my office work.

Not really. If you are doing the same kind of work freelance that you are doing full time then you are technically cheating your boss. Full time means you work at that job only for them, where if you did a different kind of work; it would be moon-lighting and as long as there were no schedule conflicts you would not be in competition. You will either be honest or dishonest in your decision. There is no shady area here.
2 :
It's not really a question of ethics, as long as you aren't using any work resources (including time on their clock) for your freelance work, and as long as there is no conflict of interests. However, your primary employer might have policies against freelance work, or at least policies that require you notify your employer. In which case, failure to do so could get you terminated. This often is an enforced policy, but you're better pff not giving them grounds to terminate you for cause. My suggestion: either talk to your boss, or look into whether there are any polcies in place and then decide how to approach it. Good luck!
3 :
It's not about ethics and it's not about right or wrong. There's a reason it's called a private life. If it doesn't compromise or interfere with your day job, keep it to yourself. Good Luck

Does a Dancer's License guarantee you a job in Freelancing

Does a Dancer's License guarantee you a job in Freelancing?
Hello, In the city of Toronto, Canada, it is required to obtain a Dancer's License before proceeding to becoming a stripper. I was wondering if any woman is accepted for freelancing, or if I will have to do some kind of interview? I spoke to some dancers over the past few months, and they just told me to get the license and then I could freelance. But would this be guaranteed? Because I am thinking of moving to Toronto--I live 5 hours away! All help would be appreciated! :)

I live in Toronto, although it's just like any other job, just because you have the requirements doesn't mean you'll get it, however, it does serve you a far better chance then without it

I'm 16 and I'm wondering can i get a job as a freelance game tester and if so some help would be appreciated.

I'm 16 and I'm wondering can i get a job as a freelance game tester and if so some help would be appreciated.?
I'm 16 and i don't have my license yet so i can't really drive any where yet and i really want to be a freelance video game tester. Thing is every where i go it points me to pay site that is trying to sell me a guide and i don't want to buy a guide. I would love to work for my favorite gaming companies and get a few bucks testing games that people don't even know the titles to yet ( if you get them that early) so if anyone reading this has any info, contacts, referrals, or anything that can get me started please help make my dream come true. P.S. for direct contact with me please email me at: gamerscott09@aol.com thank you for your help. Guys i don't want online surveys ior things like that i don't trust those im not a fan of giving my personal info to a site i have no clue about. I'm asking for info on game testing jobs and info on those types of jobs would be greatly appreciated.

So, let's see if I understand you correctly... YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO JUSTIFY SPENDING HOURS PERFECTING YOUR VIDEO GAMING TECHNIQUES INSTEAD OF PITCHING IN WITH THE HOUSEHOLD CHORES? Haha! I think this is the site for you. They will pay you to be a video game tester and teach you how to fill out the surveys to get paid. Does that sound right? Visit: http://tinyurl.com/4myz75
2 :
The testing of games is done primarily with two groups of people. First is their regular testing employees. These are people who have previous testing experience, or often have a degree or diploma in computer science or other areas of IT. These are almost exclusively full-time positions (40h ++ a week) The second group of people involved in testing are called Beta Testers. These are regular users much like yourself in the real world who want to try new games before they come out and provide feedback. Beta testers seldom if ever get paid for games testing though. There's so many people willing to do this type of job for free that they don't have to pay people. Typically you get a free copy of the game once the final version is released, and that's your only payment. It can also be difficult to be accepted to be a beta tester, again just because they have so many people wanting to do it. Sorry, but what you're looking for does not exist. You're not qualified enough to be a real tester employed by the games company, and beta testers do not get paid. As a side note, if you're interested software testing, it's a pretty decent field so long as you stay away from games testing. Those poor testers are some of the worst-paid and over worked employees within the software engineering world.
