tax regulations reg. freelance job?
Hi, I work fully employed in the UK as a translator, and I'd like to do some freelance translations as well. Maybe someone could give me some info on the things I have to consider, like whether I'm allowed to at all and what I have to do before I can start, e.g. regarding tax regulations. Thanks a lot! You are already employed under PAYE in UK? You want to do some freelance work also? If so, register with H M Revenue & Customs as self emloyed. You can do this via website http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/selfemployed/iwtregister-as-self-employed.shtml You should do this within 3 months of starting freelance work or you may have to pay a £100 penalty I cannot see any reason why you cannot do freelance work. How do I list internships and freelance jobs on a resume

How do I list internships and freelance jobs on a resume?
My work history is kind of scattered,and I am not sure how to put it on a resume. I've been working as a freelance photographer for 3 years, had 3 internships prior to that, and was a photo editor before I began interning. Should I list the internships separately, or should I put everything under "experience" and list the positions as "intern"? Thank you!

I suggest you start by prioritizing your skills and experience - taking into account what will matter most to the employer you're targeting. Put your most compelling attributes in a 'skills summary' section at the top of your resume. Then decide whether you will present yourself best by placing your experience in categories or in a job-by-job list. It doesn't sound as if your experience is all that diverse - it all seems to relate to the photographic field! So you could present your experience in a reverse chronological manner. But even if you choose the so-called 'functional resume' approach, you can still list your work history underneath the categories of skills. Many employers feel more comfortable being able to see your work history at a glance - even if you choose to give higher prominence to the skills. Hi I am a actionscript programmer for over three years now. Recently, I've decided to start looking for freelance jobs but I realised I don't even know the market trends, what to quote for projects, that kind of stuff. Can anyone who have done freelance in Singapore help? Like what are the important things I should take note when I take on freelance projects? Those "throw-away," newspaper may hire you as a writer, with a Journalism certifiate, but not a legimate Daily newspaper. Freelance jobs often go to the interns that were at the newspaper.

Difficult--you need some experience first. Go to the US Department of Labor Job Description site. The site should help you answer the rest of your questions about a position in journalism.

I'll assume you mean journalism degree. Most newspapers of any size prefer some experience, so you'll have to start low -- small daily papers, weeklies, etc. The money isn't too good, but the experience is invaluable. Then you can think about moving up. Once you get your foot in the door, you can start thinking about freelancing. But you need some clippings first.

I am a makeup artist looking for a job, any sugguestions?
I am a makeup artist with a few small free-lance jobs under my belt. I've done a few weddings and proms, but am having a hard time finding steady work. I applied to Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom but received email replies from both stating that they do not have any positions currently available. Are there any other stores or salons anyone can sugguest, or a better way to get my name out there so I can get more freelance jobs? I am in NJ. Thanks!

Did you try a Mac counter? Why not just go into business for yourself? You could make up some nice business cards and leave them wedding boutiques, join up with other people who work weddings to promote your business (like photographers, etc) and you can do the same for them. Heck photographers could even recommend you to other clients that need makeup done for things other than weddings. You just need to get your name out there. Clientele will follow

Can freelance jobs be done from home

Can freelance jobs be done from home?
Or would you still have to report to the site where the job is coming from? I can't afford to commute to downstate NY from where I am-it's too expensive.

If you're freelancing, you're free to set the conditions yourself. Tell the company you only work from home, if that's what you want to do. Or tell them you'll work from home for X amount of dollars per hour, but if they want you on site, it will cost them X plus 10 percent. That's what I do (except sometimes it's 20 percent, if they want me to go in to the city, with all the traffic and parking fees.) You can do whatever you want. It's up to you to decide how bad you want the job vs. how bad you want to set your own ideal working conditions.
