Is it easy to get a job as a freelance photographer

Is it easy to get a job as a freelance photographer?
I own a SMALL photography company , pretty much just starting out, not even a studio yet, but I need some income and I want to know how feasible it is to get a job for a newspaper or magazine, and if you have any tips on how to go about being hired? Does it matter on what brand of camera?

Jen, I'm confused, doesn't "freelance" mean that you are not working a job? I understand that you want to do work for some newspapers and magazines, but you will not be an employee of that company. Maybe I'm misunderstanding and what you mean is get an assignment (job) to photograph something. First thing you are going to need to do, I think, is to supply examples of your work. If you can show the person that pays for photographs that you have what it takes, then perhaps you can get a recurring gig. Find newsworthy events and take pictures. Make sure you document as much as possible about the event. Capture the longshot crossing the finish line first, capture the firefighter carrying the infant from a burning building and saving it's life, capture the chance meeting of a public celebrity having an encounter with a puppy......whatever it is, it's got to be useful for news. Now, the choices you have here are two. Will you provide photos that celebrate and lift up the reading audience, or will you just do as other do and get the latest car crash victim? Will you make a statement that there is more good in the world than bad, or will you make readers look at the latest tragedy. Yes, my personal feelings about news reporting are coming through in that last part, but these are valid points. Will you be a carbon copy of every other news photog, or will you take another track? I wish you success, we need more entrepreneurs in this country....Be the boss, don't report to one.

Hey Jen- I have a few close friends in this situation & it is best to get in with a studio, even if only part time. That will give you a chance to expand your portfolio & get your hands on all kinds of equipment! Usually studios are more than happy to loan equipment for special projects. Brand of camera doesn't matter. Just how you use it! Bad news is, in this day & age the field is tough. Very competitive. There are so many photographers are out there. You just either have to have what they are looking for at that moment or know just the right person. Good luck!!

have you tried porn my other daughter and her husband are and they do make some money at it

Have you considered contacting various school districts, football team, cheerleaders, band, graduation, and etc. Also, may consider other organizations and business and churches, Corporation officers, directors, Moose, Eagles, DAR, city/county leaders, chamber, Country Club tournaments, fishing tournaments, and etc. Someone suggested porn, personally I would not advise it, could create problems that you do not want to carry rest of your life and harm rest of the business. However, Bedroom or erotic pictures wives have made as a gift husbands may have some merit. I wish you the best

I'm working my first social media freelance job. How much should I charge

I'm working my first social media freelance job. How much should I charge?
I want to be reasonable because it is for a non-profit organization for early autism testing a research, but I am completely clueless on what to charge. Please help! I would be both creating and maintaining reference sites via facebook/myspace/twitter and maintaining a blog for an autism specialist that has created the non-profit for autism research and information for early testing. They are requesting an hourly rate, I would be working on this approx 6-8 hrs a week.

Is this a writing job? If so I would say $5-10 a post.

Hi, I recommend that you have a look at my website. This is the answer that I give to similar queries. My website has links where you can compare rates. The best solution is to look at the skills that you have from your career and start your own business because it places you in control. The difficulty is in identifying what are legitimate work at home jobs and what is a fair and reasonable return for your time. In starting to look at this issue it is important to realize that there are many others that have gone down this path and you can take advantage from their experience here :http://www.wahm.com/forum/. You can also take advantage of some research that I have done at http://www.freelance-work-guide.com/index.html. I would appreciate any comments that you leave. How much commission should i give to someone that gets me a freelance job

How much commission should i give to someone that gets me a freelance job?
Hi, i make 3d animation and motion graphics for tv ads. A friend recently got a deal with a tv network to make 30 animations, he wants to split the earnings 50-50 buy im doing all the work and all the equipment is mine, so I dont beleive a 50-50 split is fair, what percentage would be fair to give him for getting the job?

30%
2 :
Even if he was a professional agent, he would have no reason to ask for more then 20% for the "finders fee", etc. I worked in the staffing business for 10+ years and the typical markup after fees was around 13%. If he is asking for 50-50, I'd say you may want to change your word to describe him from "friend" to something more fitting. Good luck! Jas
3 :
unfortunately if he got the deal you dont have too much leverage in negotiating...after all, anyone can work but finding the work is usually the hard part...think of it this way if you worked for a company they would pay you a salary and you would get a lot less than 50% you would get more like .01%... i dont believe 50/50 is too bad but that doesnt mean he wouldn't pay you more good luck in negotiating
4 :
10% used to be the rate, but 20% to 25% would be fine! It depends a little on how much you'll make and also on whether or not you are likely to get more work from that job -- you will have to be the judge of that

Where can I find a freelance online colorist job?
I tried Craigslist and a few other places - no one seems to want a colorist. Is there some comic book site (or something) that I could go to? Thanks in advance. :) PS: I live in Boulder, Colorado.

The Internet has opened up many freelance opportunities, expanding markets and helping to build it into one of the largest economic segments for many economies. Development for freelancing has been especially high for software development, website design, information technology, and business documentation. Freelance practice varies greatly. Some require clients to sign written contracts<!--while others may perform work based on verbal agreements, perhaps enforceable through the very nature of the work. Some freelancers may provide written estimates of work and request deposits from clients. Get more information on the website. You can almost find any freelance job you want. http://freelancejobs.awardspace.com/ Payment for freelance work also varies greatly. Freelancers may charge by the day or hour, or on a per-project basis. Instead of a flat rate or fee, some consultants have adopted a value-based pricing method-->based on the perceived value of the results to the client. By custom, payment arrangements may be upfront, percentage upfront, or upon completion. For more complex projects, a contract may set a payment schedule based on milestones or outcomes.

Looking for a freelance translation job

Looking for a freelance translation job?
I am a 19 years old Egyptian guy. I am studying translation in the American University in Cairo. Is it possible to do some translation work over the Internet? I have tried some site, but it seems that I need to have a credit card to register and I do not.

Please do not give anyone ANY MONEY to get work. If you are serious about this, the best place to look for any real jobs is wintranslation.com, monster.com, careerbuilder.com, usajobs.gov, craigslist.org. Search using key words "arabic translation" and "arabic translator". You can also post your resume (qualifications) on these websites and people looking for arabic translators will be able to search for you. If you post your qualifications online, state clearly that you are located abroad and will perform all work electronically. Be advised that you may not be eligible for some positions because you are not a US citizen, but if you post your resume, employers who dont care about that will contact you. Good luck

i would of thought, just making a portfolio of what you can do. then ring the a few small businesses to arrange a interview over skype or in person show them what you can produce then sell it to them. if they take you on, try a bigger company name and see how that goes. That's all i did know im in oxford university getting paid 25k + a year for computer graphic designs for moon pig. it took me 3 years to get where i am today, so work well kid. !! :(Y)
2 :
I see lots of graphic designers advertising on Craigslist. That's one thing, anyway.

4 :
loads of jobs on rent a coder website.
5 :
First, do you already have the skills for graphic design? How about the tools ( computer, wireless pen, software )? If you answered YES to these two questions, then it is high time to show your works on the web. You can create your own website, or make your own portfolio on many legit freelance sites where you can sign up - for free. You can also use the power of social media to spread the word about you ( Facebook, Lineked In, Twitter, etc ). This way, while you are searching for freelance gigs, people looking for your skills can easily find you as well. It's all about the art of personal branding that will help you get your first graphics design job. Hope these helps.
