Just go into (say) elance and get your feet wet. There are lots of postings to go through and the directions on how to contact and bid on postings is very straight forward on the site. Best of luck to you. If you are a good writer (particularly in the area of marketing) . . . you can do quite well (financially that is) Try article writing area first ~ short and focused pieces that can be written quickly. There is competition most surely. Just jump in and give it a go.

I hate those bid sites personally. There are hundreds of people on each site willing to work for pennies. It's a frustrating venture. I prefer sites like Brighthub and DemandStudios who pay upfront per article. I make around $1,200 a month writing 20 articles a week. That averages out to be a 20 hour work week. If you were more dedicated you could pull more. Magazines are where the real money is. Go to freelancewriting.com for a list of magazines that accept submissions from freelancers. I am also a new freelance writer. I tried the whole Elance thing, and quickly learned that it is only for people who are already distinguished writers who can pay to have all their information verified. A great place to get paid while getting your name out is: Associated Content - http://www.associatedcontent.com/join.html?refer=365813 There is a great community of people on there who are happy to help others. Here are a few articles I have written about the business and various work at home opportunities. Good Morning America Helped Me Work From Home http://www.associatedcontent.com/article... Internet Girl Friday and Other Work at Home Opportunities http://www.associatedcontent.com/article... Freelance Writing Opportunities that allow you to Work From Home will be the closest to what you are looking for, it will be published after Jan. 7th if you wanna check my profile: http://associatedcontent.com/carlaboner My Blog has some great information: Freelance Writing - The Quest http://carlaboner.wordpress.com Also Accentuate Writer's Forum is a great place to meet other writers, learn about paid jobs (many are magazines), contests, and get critiques from published writers. I love it there: http://www.accentuateservices.com/xmb Hope this helps! Hope this all helps! Good Luck

Where can I get jobs as a freelance writer?

Where can I get jobs as a freelance writer?
I need a job without age requirements that I can perform from my home and not have to travel anywhere. I also don't want to have to pay any sort of application fee. I can write advertisements, short reports and essays, and most types of creative writing.

You have to submit samples of your writing to every magazine and newspaper. All it takes is one publication to print your article and you can get discovered. Sometimes you have to work for the local Free newspaper; often a weekly paper. You might only get $100 for a full-page story but it is a start..

Freelance writing will definitely allow you to work from home, and even in a down market newspapers, magazines, websites, companies, and the like always have a need for good content, and much of this they will get from freelance writers. That said, anyone with a solid command of language can proclaim themselves a professional writer, and to stand out from the pack (and get the best jobs), you'll need to be able to carve out a niche for yourself - ie, is there a subject that you know particularly well? If you're willing to do any sort of work, you can find plenty of opportunities on sites like Elance and Guru.com, but you'll be competing against thousands of others willing to drive prices down to McDonalds-esque wages. Personally I had better luck leveraging my love for computers to find technical writing work. Technical writers are always in high demand, and specializing helps you both find clients and charge much higher rates. I think that's a pretty common pattern: start off bidding for work on project-based job sites, then build your own client list and put up a website once you have some writing samples and a specialization. Best of luck

call various companies and ask them

First answer this: Do you have experience with either? Are you well skilled with either field? If your answer is no then getting a job will be next to impossible. Writing and photography are two highly competitive fields where you have to be outstanding in order to be successful. If your skills are mediocre, your portfolio is minimal and/or you have no publishing credits getting a job will not happen. Freelance writing I can say from personal experience is a challenge. You can query individuals or small businesses who may need writers but the odds of landing a steady gig are usually small. I have a web site up and over seven years of experience writing at a professional level and I still struggle. With photography, I am just starting to break into it (only 5 months experience using my DSLR and teaching myself new tricks daily) so I have a long way to go. Slowly working on building my portfolio and trying to get better with each shoot. All a work in progress. Examine your skill set, experience, and what you have to offer your clients. If you are still lacking in more than one or two areas then your best bet is to work on correcting those before offering your services. Freelance writing isn't as easy as sitting in front of your computer in your pajamas. Trust me, it's a lot harder than that. EDIT: Ugh. How rude. Is a cowardly thumbs down really necessary? Whomever is doing it, GROW UP

What are the main responsibilities of a freelance journalist?

What are the main responsibilities of a freelance journalist?
When a freelance journalist gets a job, what are his or her main responsibilities to complete the job? What kind of research do they need to do? What elements do they need to use in their writing style in order to relay a full, unbiased version of the facts? About how many hours or days does it take to complete an average job?

A freelancer, freelance worker, or freelance is a self-employed person who pursues a profession without a long-term commitment to any particular employer. The term "freelance" was first coined by Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832) in his well-known historical romance Ivanhoe to describe a "medieval mercenary warrior" (or "free-lance"). The phrase later transitioned to a figurative noun around the 1860s and was then officially recognized as a verb in 1903 by various authorities in etymology such as the Oxford English Dictionary. Only in modern times has the term morphed from a noun (a freelance) into an adjective (a freelance journalist), various verb forms (a journalist who freelances), and an adverb (she worked freelance), and then from the verb into the derived, now commonly used, noun form "freelancer

How does one go about getting a freelance writing job with a newspaper

How does one go about getting a freelance writing job with a newspaper?
Okay, so I'm only 18 and don't have any college degrees yet, but an idea just struck me tonight. I'm going to school to be a copyeditor and novelist, and needless to say, I love to read. Sometimes I find myself composing book reviews in my head as I read. I live in a tiny town in MN, and I'm pretty sure the local newspaper doesn't have a book review column. I'd like to see if I could write one for them. The thing is... as it is a small town paper, I'm not really sure they could afford to pay me. So ... how do I approach the right people at the paper? I want to push for a paid job if possible, but I am willing to work for free, in order to build up reputation and writing skills... how do I finesse this situation?

Go to the newspaper and ask if you can intern there. It'll be nothing big, mostly getting coffee, but you'll show the people that you're responsible and passionate. From there, you can talk to people to see who you need to talk to about, possibly, becoming a freelance writer. You have to start at the bottom to get to the top in the journalism world. It's a competitive field.

Hi, I joined “Savelogist” to earn my living. It’s free to join. No credit card required. No SSN. You can work from home. It’s legitimate. I came across this organization on NBC News. You can contact them at this toll free 877-453-0878

You can either register yourself for free on many freelancing sites on the Web, make your services known by creating your own blog or portfolio website, or go to online job boards where they post requirements for data entry jobs. By investment, you mean money? Yes, there are sites that are free to join and search jobs for -- still, you need to invest time in making yourself salable to potential clients out there. Good Luck!

Write a novel, or if you wanna make money, write a children's book, but that is better left to parents who have dealt with it. Here is something https://www.scripps.apply2jobs.com/ProfExt/index.cfm?fuseaction=mExternal.showJob&RID=1966&CurrentPage=13 --Writing broadcast news including VOs and VOSOTs --Writing and posting stories to the web Those are just a few of the jobs included in the internship. You talking about something like that? The only thing is that you need to be in college to get most internships. Which is why I said to write a novel. I was given the opportunity to go to Germany to learn baking on an apprenticeship deal, but I failed to have the high school diploma, and the waiting list to enroll into a single class at my area school for culinary arts was (is) two years, so I had to pass that up. Start looking now if writing is what you wanna do, cause others also want the same thing, and that diploma is key, but putting in requests now at 16, looks really good on your resume.

Take out some magazine subscriptions that have short stories in them. Look for some that match your genre. Write short stories and submit them. You'll most likely get a ton of rejection letters (all writers do), but you'll get a ton of experience doing it and may finally get something accepted.

You can try www.Elance.com. It's a great online jobsite where companies and freelancers (freelance writers included) meet to work. It's free to open an Elance account, though you may need a parent's permission and active involvement since you're under the age of 18. Some tips for you: (1) Look for creative writing and children's books projects to start with. (2) Be professional -- stick to your agreed fees, deadlines, and deliverables. (3) Have fun! For more information about starting a writing career on Elance, see this article I wrote: http://wp.me/p18prf-2H Feel free to sign up to my blog -- I help new freelance writers like you get your writing careers going! Hope I helped, ~Mike
