http://www.soyouwanna.com http://www.writersdigest.com Check those out. If you are a writer then you know that research is your friend. Especailly since you seem to want to freelance, you can't be afraid of doing your own research.
2 :
Freelance and fiction writing rarely go together in the same sentence let alone earn you any substantial income. Non-fiction writing such as copywriting can net you respectable income...if you know what you're doing. And Beauty is right -- if you're going to say you're a writer then you need to learn to research. Writers find their own material. A few tips and suggestions from fellow writers is one thing, not taking the time or effort to find these out yourself shows a lack of discipline on your part.
3 :
freelance is hard. especially in fiction, where we are all essentially freelance. very few publications have staff fiction writers. your best bet is to approach magazines etc directly. research is your friend. if you write hardcore sci-fi then there is no point in sending one of your stories to people's friend. spend some time looking around at magazines etc and work out which ones you want to see your work in. then send them a query letter and a sample of your writing. it can take a couple of months sometimes, so keep sending stories out to lots of differan publications. but remember to keep track of what you have sent and where. most mags pay by the word. unfortunately there is no single place to go for a writing job. good luck
4 :
I'd recommend you searching for those on job lists like http://freelancewritinggigs.com. Or you can also use some paid services like http://www.justmarkets.com for that. Good luck!
5 :
It's going to be tough, but not impossible. Check out this site: www.freelancewriting.com There are all types of job postings, you might get luck and find something related to fiction. Good luck!

Go call some french translators in your area, and ask them what their rate is. Find the range of the rates and position yourself to be competitive in pricing.
2 :
http://www.freelance-translators.co.uk/rates.html check this site, cheers!
3 :
Prices vary according to difficulty and technicity. Rates range between 0,08 and 0.10 cent/word Have a look here: http://www.translatorsbase.com/statistics/rates.aspx
4 :
It's mainly depends on the text. The are for technical text for example is higher. The rate starts at $0,01/ sourceword, but that is pretty low. I think you should go for $0,03/ sourceword, as you have obviously no previous translaion experience. Visit this site for more informations about freelancing: http://www.freelancer-online.com

Where's a good place to find freelance writing jobs without a college degree

Where's a good place to find freelance writing jobs without a college degree?
I've always been a pretty decent writer. I'm interested in becoming a freelance writer. The problem is, although I've written for school newspapers I have no real experience or education. So I guess my question would be is it possible to earn money as a freelance writer without any formal training or education?

HEY, i'm a writter too! good luck

As a freelance writer, you could only get work in the US as a 'independent contractor'. As such, your pay would be considered a 'bill' to the US employer, and not income to you. The reason almost all companies do this is because most companies do not want the hassle of trying to 'hire' foreign employees. With our unemployment rate at almost 10 percent in the US, because of the politics, it is not easy to hire foreign employees. So the companies use 'independent contractors' and if they like you work, will make you sign an agreement which, in essentially says that you relationship with them is a 'client-contractor' relationship. That frees them from claiming you as an employee, and eliminates a lot of hassle for them. Assuming they like you work, and use you as a freelance, it will be totally up to you to report your income to the Australian authorities. I am not familiar with the Aussie tax structure, but I am assuming that the Aussie gov't likes to tax your income as much as the Yanks do their citizens. Us Yanks must report ALL of our income - regardless of the source. (In fact that's how the US gov't goes after gangsters - they put them in jail for tax evasion

I am a freelance writer, and I am concerned about my current job

I am a freelance writer, and I am concerned about my current job?
About 6 months ago, I wrote an ebook for a lady, now she says she knows someone interested in my writing. (The ebook had my name, a couple of pages about how the business helped me, and a mention of my gift shop.) They want me to shorten the ebook, then give them editing rights, remove my name, and give them branding rights. In exchange for getting their website for free for life (they charge an overpriced $68 a month). They will then use the ebook to get people to join their website at $68 a month, and will increase their own sales of the product at $700 to $9000 profit. I think I should have my name and a mention of my store, both of which need more publicity so I can actually make money. (The store makes $50 a month in a good month, the writing... everyone wants to barter.) They seem to thing that is unreasonable, but they will profit a lot, and I have a temp job currently that barely pays bills.

Are you already using their site? If not, forget it, they're ripping you off.
2 :
I don't understand what your original assignment was ("for a lady"?), but at the least you should have your name somewhere on the book, even if not the cover, and there must be a reference to your own web site about your gift shop. You should have access to their site for life as well. They should also pay you $1 as a token amount to recognize that they bought the book. The agreement should say that all rights revert to you, and they must have no further use of your work if they do not live up to ALL the terms of the agreement.
3 :
Don't do it Jaime! They want total control! You deserve to get PAID for your work. They are trying to get the highest possible return, even if it means cheating. They think you don't know any better. Have a lawyer look over their offer. You do have a lawyer, don't you? Somebody has to help look after your well being!

Full-time job + part-time job + freelancing: tax and NI implications

Full-time job + part-time job + freelancing: tax and NI implications?
Hi, I have a full time job and I also freelance in two different areas. One freelancing gig is with a particular company and the other is on and off at different places. I know I have to pay tax on all three and I have registered as self employed for the on-off freelance work. I've only just landed the other freelancing contract and since it is a different type of job, I was wondering if I need to declare myself self-employed again?

No you don't. You have already declared that you are self employed so you will be sent a tax return after 5 April next. If you have 2 different sources of self employed income you just have to complete 2 sets of self employment pages on your tax return. Regarding NIC's.......you pay Class 2 NIC's (self employed stamp) costing £2.20 per week regardless of how many self employed sources of income you have
