I am a freelance writer seeking a job. how do I go about it?
Also, when people say "submit to magazines, etc." what kind of articles am i supposed to submit?

Alex, you read multiple issues of magazines you think you could write for, and your submit *proposals* for articles that seem like they'd fit right in with their other material. Depending on your topic and areas of expertise, you may be able to spin an article for a men's magazine like GQ into a perfectly good article for an entirely different sort of magazine, like Boy's Life. Do yourself a favor and browse (maybe even buy) the most recent edition of Writer's Market (assuming you're in the US). It explains what magazines want, their guidelines for submission, the required format, what proposals entail, and more. You'll need every bit of that to succeed
