How much commission should i give to someone that gets me a freelance job

How much commission should i give to someone that gets me a freelance job?
Hi, i make 3d animation and motion graphics for tv ads. A friend recently got a deal with a tv network to make 30 animations, he wants to split the earnings 50-50 buy im doing all the work and all the equipment is mine, so I dont beleive a 50-50 split is fair, what percentage would be fair to give him for getting the job?

30%

Even if he was a professional agent, he would have no reason to ask for more then 20% for the "finders fee", etc. I worked in the staffing business for 10+ years and the typical markup after fees was around 13%. If he is asking for 50-50, I'd say you may want to change your word to describe him from "friend" to something more fitting. Good luck! Jas

unfortunately if he got the deal you dont have too much leverage in negotiating...after all, anyone can work but finding the work is usually the hard part...think of it this way if you worked for a company they would pay you a salary and you would get a lot less than 50% you would get more like .01%... i dont believe 50/50 is too bad but that doesnt mean he wouldn't pay you more good luck in negotiating

10% used to be the rate, but 20% to 25% would be fine! It depends a little on how much you'll make and also on whether or not you are likely to get more work from that job -- you will have to be the judge of that
