what job is this where you translate medical information

what job is this where you translate medical information?
I ran into someone out walking, who told me she translates medical information from doctors for insurance companies from her home freelance. I didn't get a chance to ask her what her job title is and what degree she had for it. Can anyone help me out please? What is this job called and how can you get it? thank you.

The job is a Medical Transcriptionist. Do not be fooled by the online programs that promise you will get work right after graduation--won't happen. Theyjust get yoru $$ as they are not Accreditated by their program so no one will take the Diploma or Certificate as valid. There is a now a Federal mandate for Privacy called HIPAA. MD's must be very careful who they let access those records as they can get in trouble if anything happens such as Identity Theft. Go to a Community College and check out the programs. You must learn Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Terminology as well as typing fast and accurately. If you do that they can help place you and it is good to start out that way, get experience and then you can branch out as you are reputable to an MD. A Counselor at the College can help more w/ what you must take, how long etc. If you have a Medical Background it makes it much easier. You might find a few Companies that do home transcription yet you still have to be able to do the work or they can't use you. You will need to have a good ear for languages as MD's are from many Countries and speak w/ accents. Also know that what you type goes into the Chart and is part of the Medical Record and as such could end up in Trials as well. Accuracy is of utmost importance. You must like sitting for long hours and typing or this won't work in an office setting. Once you transition home you can do it part-time so the drudgery will lessen. Best wishes

What does it mean to work in freelance design?
I met someone who said they were going into freelance design, and I was too embarrassed to admit I had no idea what that meant. What kind of job is it? What do you do in that field?

It means they go about doing projects for many different companies and people; i.e. they aren't under contract by one company... They decide for themselves who they want to design for.

Graphic design? You should have asked what type of design. Interior? Landscape? Many types of design. Freelance means you're your own boss, getting out there and finding part time or piece work for companies and businesses.

Freelance means they are their own business, selling their design skills to other companies. Companies hire for a project or for a specified period of time. Design can be anything from creating websites to fashions to cars.

I'm a freelance web designer. I'm not under contract with one specific company, and I am free to design for whoever gives me work. It's good because I do make more money than a few of my friends who are under contract as designers, since I work for more than one person. However it's also bad because since I don't have a contract, they can tell me they don't want my services and they're not legally obligated to take them. Another perk is that I work from home, but not all freelance workers do. Some give you the option, while others give you an office. I like working from home because I get to take care of other things around the house when I'm not working. Hope I helped
