The essay writer companies not only pay poorly but the majority of them are scams and don't pay at all, I'm also not too hot with the ethical side of it - what are the real opportunities for freelance writing online?

Most paper-based magazines and newspapers have websites with online-only content. I imagine they would be your best bet, since they are established, respectable and can be expected to pay decently
