Loving to write is not necessarily a job skill. Are you a published writer? Do you have your own blog site? You should look at your local paper's website and see if you can contact the editor or human resources department. Check out if that local paper has any job openings for writers and what is their criteria/requirements for the job

Be specific in all details. Be sure to include: 1. The scope of the work you are do to. 2. Who decides when the work is "complete." (Does the client have the right to endless make-overs?) 3. What is your compensation, and how will it be paid (often, the client pays 50% down, and 50% when the job is completed. Depending upon the field, the proposal may have additional details needed

I need a Higher Paying Freelance Writer Job

I need a Higher Paying Freelance Writer Job?
Do you know of a good company that pays it's freelance writers more than 15.00 for a 400-500 word article. I currently write for Demand Studios but I am looking to upscale my income.

Don't depend on a company to take care of you. You are an artist and also an entrepreneur. You should contact papers and tell them you'd like to submit work to them. Get in touch with magazines and write for them. You could make thousands on an article that may take you only hours (or all month) to write. I'm a writer (you can google Christopher Pascale to see that I'm or real) and when my publisher told me they were going to toss my book for poor sales I got off my ass, got on the phone, and booked myself for a full summer tour with 20 events in North Carolina and New York. It took about 100 phone calls, and maybe it will take you about 100 phone calls, too. Good luck.

What should I charge for my first freelance writing job

What should I charge for my first freelance writing job?
I'll be writing for a green real estate community who needs some new verbiage for their sales letters. Southern Living magazine is building one of their "idea houses" at this community, and the company needs content reflecting that. I imagine the project will take 3-5 hours work time (including revisions) and not including 30 minutes travel and an hour of meeting time...

As a beginner, how much should I charge for a "freelance" job to design business cards & a flyer

As a beginner, how much should I charge for a "freelance" job to design business cards & a flyer?
I have been given the opportunity to design business cards and a flyer for a local tattoo shop. My goal is to get hired on full-time as a shop manager. This is kind of a test by the owner to see what I can do. How much should I charge for a first-time (probably one time only) design job? I want to make this worth my time, but still not overcharge, thereby decreasing my chances of being hired on as a full-time shop manager?

If you want to get hired as a permanent employee, do it well and do it free. If you still want to make some money out of it, a rate of $ 10 per hour of your working on that would be OK.
2 :
Actually the best way to do is do a canvassing by the some printing shop. Just canvass 2 or 3 printing shop according to their standard price. Then make a conclusion out of their price.
3 :
Don't do it free, people associate free with cheap (I still love Stallman, though). You are marketing yourself, you want to imply that you are worth hiring, business people associate worth with money, so you want to be about average here. If you go too high, you look like you're greedy, too low, you look like you're inexperienced. You say you are inexperienced, and that is fine, that doesn't mean, though, that you will do a bad job, you still need to represent yourself as something worth having, so don't go too low. Guy who spoke before is pretty right. Query design shops in your area, get a feel for that price, go a little under it. This says you are worth something, but you are not trying to take advantage. Essentially, a great deal :) Plus, as you pointed out, you are doing work, and it should be worth your time. On the other hand, if the shop owner is a communist, throw out everything I said ^^
4 :
I agree with Jude. Also, never agree to an hourly rate. You have to work way too long to make any money

Network anywhere and everywhere. I've landed a decent little yearly freelance job from my cousin's boss at the beer sellar and the dude who manages my son's little league uses me and he has many connections. Like I said anywhere and everywhere. Don't push, just keep your eyes open and let people know what you can do. Hope this helps!

If you've been working at an agency for 5 years, then you probably already have a bunch of connections right there, and if not, then you have the right people to recommend you. Most large cities have some sort of organization for creatives and I'd start looking there first. If not, take a look at the small or private business organizations in your area, maybe even chambers of commerce and such. I'd say go ahead and create your own identity, build your own site, and then get rolling. I've been freelancing since graduation and it's been alright, though I've been too busy to actually turn around and properly do all of my identity since I've been handling everyone else's work. Go figure.
