Good question, there are a number of resources online to get started, graphic designer Jacob Cass of Just Creative Design has a great article outlining the many avenues you can take to getting freelance gigs while in school, it's called "How and where to get paid freelance work while you are still a design student: you should check it out. Branded Designers is a blog that gives you marketing advice on your design portfolios and styleapple.com is launching a site this month to help showcase your work giving you maximum exposure to potential clients. Hope this helps

When a provider is bidding on a freelance job if he wins does that mean that he'll have to pay the bid amount

When a provider is bidding on a freelance job if he wins does that mean that he'll have to pay the bid amount?
Does that mean he'll have to pay his employer for work?I'm confused.

I think what you're asking is, how does it work when people have to put in bids for a job. For example, my firehouse needs a new roof. We ask for bids from companies. Company A bids $10,000. Company B bids $12,000. What that means is, Compay A will perform the work if we pay them $10,000, and Company B will do the job if we pay them $12,000. We would go for the lowest bid, Company A, and we would pay them $10,000 for the new roof. Does that help?
2 :
No friend, you are mistaken. When a freelancer bid for any amount that means he/she is agreeing to complete the job in the said amount. Suppose you bid for $150 for designing a web template you are asking $150 from the publisher of the project to complete the web template. You can go ahead and bid for any project under your category

Open a paypal account or simply tell your contract to bank into your bank account directly. But there is no guarantee that your contract would pay up 100%.

Freelance web design may be a bit easier to get into than you think. For starters, take out your own website. Be sure to pay particular attention to detail, interative features, content, etc. Create a portfolio with your work and also a resume. www.monster.com can help with resumes and also job searches. Next, check you local newspapers and/or bulletin boards.Search the web, using engines like Yahoo HotJobs and Monster.com.If you are unsuccessful, try placing an ad in the newspaper or bulletin board. Many smaller companies will hire a freelance web designer because it is more cost efficient and provides the protegee with experience. :)

no no no you need to visit some freelance websites such as http://www.getafreelancer.com/ http://www.elance.com/ These site allow people to post jobs (mostly art related). You evaluate the job and submit a bid for the job. They normally will say they only have a budget of $500 or $1500. You take it from there. Youmust have a portfolio ready to view. As you take more jobs from the site you get rated and develop a profile rating. The more jobs you get the better reason for you to charge more for your work. make sure you get paid at least 50% up front. Good Luck

do you have a good example of your work ? see popclt.com it's mine an a nice example of someone who uses my site as their portfolio site . he shows it at tpmullin.com tp. mullin

Can I get a job freelance writing under the age of 18

Can I get a job freelance writing under the age of 18?
I live in the northeast United States and have won several writing contests. I'd like to make some money with my talent, but I don't think I can, being a minor. Does anyone know if I can write freelance as a minor? Anybody know someplace I can, if so? My strengths could include advice columns, video game reviewing, or blogging. Also short stories.

1 :
Your best bet would be to contact businesses that would be able to use your talents. Ask them if there are age restrictions. Find out the procedures for submitting your work. If you are capable of writing short stories or a novel, book publishers are willing to accept them. It may take many submittals to find a publisher, but it is possible.
2 :
if your writing is good enough, it will sell - age is irrelevant - "freelance" work is not a steady paying job - you might sell one story a year or one a month - YOU have to do all the legwork finding who is paying for stories and then go thru the application process

I did not get paid for a freelance job. What should I do

I did not get paid for a freelance job. What should I do?
I did some graphic design works for a freelance job. I did not get paid. I asked to my client to pay me and then he gave me his partner's contact information-a consulting company- and I kept calling and emailing both of them, they never answer me back. I don't have a contract. But, I have hundreds of emails about the price and the work process. Is there any way I can get paid from them? He owes me $1,200.

Take the matter to small claims court, be sure to print out ALL the emails and bring them when you go to court. even though you don't have a traditional paper contract, the emails show that he did if fact agree to pay you, the services he ordered, the services you preformed, the amount you were to be paid, and when you were to be paid. If you can convice the judge, you will be awarded the money owed. If you are lucky, the company will offer a settlement when they hear that you are suing for your wages; to save thier reputation.

This is really sad - as you don't have anything in black and white or a written contract, you might as well as kiss your $1,200 goodbye. Next time, put a watermark on your work for review. If the client likes it, ask to be paid first so you can send them the final work minus the watermark. Always get yourself protected by a contract and ask for some % down payment as a form of security or trust. What you can do perhaps is report him to many complaint portal online like RipOff Report, Complaints.com, or Complaints Board. Good Luck

That's a paradox. You want a company to hire you as a freelancer. It just doesn't work. If you want a job as a freelancer, usually you take commissions work. For companies you do contracts

Not unless it's a second job or driving is a part of the job
2 :
If this is a second job and you drive from the first one to the second one you can deduct the one-way miles from the first to the second. Otherwise it's not deductible.
3 :
commuting miles which is NEVER deductible is considered the mileage from your home to where you work and you state you go to 'work' as a freelance this is not deductible the mileage for errands, calling on clients and other things would be considered, but not 'work' if you go from one job(your regular job) to the one you freelance, that mileage is deductible
