Where can I get jobs as a freelance writer?

Where can I get jobs as a freelance writer?
I need a job without age requirements that I can perform from my home and not have to travel anywhere. I also don't want to have to pay any sort of application fee. I can write advertisements, short reports and essays, and most types of creative writing.

You have to submit samples of your writing to every magazine and newspaper. All it takes is one publication to print your article and you can get discovered. Sometimes you have to work for the local Free newspaper; often a weekly paper. You might only get $100 for a full-page story but it is a start..

Freelance writing will definitely allow you to work from home, and even in a down market newspapers, magazines, websites, companies, and the like always have a need for good content, and much of this they will get from freelance writers. That said, anyone with a solid command of language can proclaim themselves a professional writer, and to stand out from the pack (and get the best jobs), you'll need to be able to carve out a niche for yourself - ie, is there a subject that you know particularly well? If you're willing to do any sort of work, you can find plenty of opportunities on sites like Elance and Guru.com, but you'll be competing against thousands of others willing to drive prices down to McDonalds-esque wages. Personally I had better luck leveraging my love for computers to find technical writing work. Technical writers are always in high demand, and specializing helps you both find clients and charge much higher rates. I think that's a pretty common pattern: start off bidding for work on project-based job sites, then build your own client list and put up a website once you have some writing samples and a specialization. Best of luck
